In memory of Lynn Rodeman Metzger

January 24th, 1937 - July 24th, 2015

This web site is dedicated to Dr. Lynn Metzger, whose constant dedication and commitment to all educational endeavors, helped make these exhibitions a reality. As a constant student and teacher, Lynn understood the educational value of the process of developing, and visiting exhibitions in how they connect people and tell stories. We hope we can embody her unending devotion to learning, both about ourselves and others, and that we continue to inspire students and viewers to do so as well.

Lynn earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees from The University of Akron and received her a Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University in Anthropology in 1989. She came to UA in 1973, first as a student, then as a full-time teacher in classical studies, anthropology and archaeology until her “semi-retirement” in May 2002. She continued teaching part time as a visiting assistant professor through December 2014 in the Department of Anthropology and Classical Studies, Department of Sociology and the Honors College. In 2008 she was awarded the Buchtel Award in Humanities. In addition to her work as a faculty member, she spearheaded many community-based research, cultural and archaeological projects in the area, including two Native American exhibitions, hosted at the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology. Aside of her scholastic talents, Lynn was also an avid gardener, dedicated mother, grandmother and wife, traveler, writer, cook, mentor, and above all, friend.
